Meet Dr. Yarlie Nicolas, LMFT

Dr. Yarlie Ruth Nicolas, LMFT is an Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Psychology, Speaker, and brands herself as a “Sports Family Therapist”, her work focuses on being an advocate for changing the narrative of Black males, athletes, women empowerment, and black families to a positive narrative in multidimensional arenas. She delights herself in using sports metaphors and pop culture to illustrate family therapy and psychological concepts.  Over a decade years of clinical experience working as a clinical therapist. As a results-focused, compassionate, and motivated professional, Dr. Nicolas has multifaceted experience in delivering client-centered services in the mental health arena. A native of Boston, MA and of Haitian American descent, Dr. Nicolas prides herself in empowering others to reach their optimal level.

Dr. Nicolas is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology. After finishing her undergraduate degree, Dr. Nicolas decided to further her studies. She received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. It was during this time; Dr. Nicolas had the immense opportunity to work as a sports marketing intern with NBA and NFL active and veteran players for six years.

These experiences fostered a passion to pursue and graduate with her Ph.D. in Marriage & Family Therapy, from Dr. Kiran Patel’s College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in 2020. Dr. Nicolas has been featured speaker for National Black Masters in Business Administration Association (NBMBAA), Nova Southeastern University’s Careers in Psychology and Counseling Webinar and highly involved in the community addressing various mental health topics such as stress-management, self-esteem, self-care and establishing healthy boundaries. On her time off, Dr. Nicolas loves to watch HGTV, mentoring, playing the violin, travel, read and enjoys bunches with family and friends.
